Welcome to Westwood Community Church
Welcome to Westwood Community Church. We exist to help people find and follow Jesus. We do this through relevant Bible teaching, modern worship and creating a variety of opportunities for significant and supportive relationships. We are better together when we are in it together.
Whether this is your first time visiting a church or your thousandth time, we want you to feel welcome here. Come as you are—in jeans or your Sunday best. Wherever you are in your faith, we want to meet you where you are and help you navigate life.
Westwood has locations in Chanhassen and Bush Lake. At each campus, you’ll find friendly folks who will greet you and answer any questions you might have. Your kids and students will enjoy our programs, which are led by fun and caring leaders. Worship services are an hour long. At Bush Lake and in the Woodside Room at Chanhassen, the sermon message is broadcast on giant screens. Each venue features live worship music with lyrics on the screens. Stick around after the service for coffee if you want. It’s a great time to meet other people, talk with our welcome volunteers or pick up information.
Kids are a priority at Westwood! We want to partner with families to help kids grow in faith and character in a setting created just for them! If you have kids birth-grade 5, we suggest arriving 15 minutes early, so they can get registered with our secure check-in system. You can walk them to their room and meet their leaders.
Student programs are held Wednesday nights. Our high school ministry and middle school ministry programs are dynamic, fun and relevant. We want to be a safe place where teens can ask big questions about faith and life and find the support and teaching they need as a foundation.
Westwood Community Church began in 1995 as an outreach to the Southwest Minneapolis suburbs by Wooddale Church. During the early years, Westwood held services in rented locations until a permanent church building in Chanhassen was constructed in 2003. Just as our roots grew out of a desire to share God’s love in communities that are lacking churches, in 2011 we helped start Westbrook Church in Chaska.
Our first multisite location, Westwood Minnetonka, launched in 2016 in a rented facility. Services were suspended there in the summer of 2019 with the hope to relaunch when a new location can be secured in the future. Westwood Bush Lake opened in 2018. A multisite church is a church that meets for worship in more than one location and has a shared budget and common leadership.
Once you make a decision to follow Christ, we encourage you to take that next step of faith be baptized. Baptism symbolizes that you no longer are your old self. You are now resurrected in Christ and walk in his power, purpose and love. Though baptism does not save anyone in and of itself, it does demonstrate our faith publicly. By believing in and following Jesus, we are given the gift of everlasting life with him. The Greek New Testament word for baptism means “to dip or immerse.” At Westwood, we follow this practice.
If you’d like to be baptized, you are invited to sign up for a class prior. We offer classes for kids, students and adults. To get more information on our next Baptism Celebration and classes, visit our events page or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
“In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.'” 1 Corinthians 11:25 (NIV)
Communion is a time to remember Christ’s sacrifice for us and the new relationship we have with God through faith in Christ. At Westwood, communion is typically observed on the first Sunday of the month. Everyone who considers themselves to be a follower of Jesus is invited to receive communion. You do not need to be a member of Westwood Community Church. The elements we use are grape juice and bread. Gluten-free bread is available.
Children are welcome to participate. As a parent, you can help determine if they are ready by using these questions as a guide:
Has your child made a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ as his or her Savior?
Do they understand the meaning behind the elements of communion and what they symbolize?
Becoming a member at Westwood is like joining a family. Together we are a family of believers who love God and love people. Together we can do more than we can apart. Membership gives you a voice in voting on key issues within the church. The path to membership begins with Life Transformed. Life Transformed is held throughout the year. To sign up for our next class, visit our events page or email email@example.com.
