When she welcomed God back into her life, she received the courage to put one foot in front of the other and the strength to know that even in her weakest, ugliest moments, she is completely loved.
Tara Gesy’s entire world changed on August 21, 2015. Her father, Michael Gesy, died from a stroke at 59. The months following his death became the darkest season of Tara’s 25 years. Angry, confused, and lost in her grief, she withdrew from everyone important in her life and turned to drinking to numb her pain. She blamed God for the agony of her loss and stepped away from her faith. Depression and anxiety loomed large, and she began wishing God had taken her instead of her dad. She lost the will to live, and the rest of 2015 went by in a painful blur.
A breakthrough came in early 2016, however. She woke up in a sweat, crying out for her dad, wishing she could hug him and just spend one more minute with him. The realization dawned on her that her dad wouldn’t want her to stop living just because he had. Tara decided in that moment she would start living life for both of them.
Tara remembers her dad as a man of love and compassion who would give the shirt off his back to help others. She remembers him being extremely proud of her for taking control of her health…
