Paul’s Story

Paul Douglas is a nationally recognized climatologist, meteorologist, author, business entrepreneur, radio and TV personality, and a friend to Westwood. Paul recently shared his perspective on faith and science with our Westwood community.

Paul became intrigued by weather as a 9th grade student when his science teacher turned a weather unit into something fascinating. After the tropical storm, Agnes, hit and flooded his home in 1972, he was even more captivated on how weather can affect life on earth.

Now as a meteorologist, Paul uses science to predict the weather in order to set expectations and bring safety and the betterment of humankind. On Paul’s three-hour morning news show, he has a unique platform in which he is able to talk freely about science as well as his faith in Jesus Christ. He has regular opportunities to reveal who he is, what he believes, and why he believes what he believes. Some will say he is using his faith as a crutch, but to him, it is a leg in which he stands on and is part of who he is.

"I’m a scientist, but I’m also a Christian and I don’t see any opposition. There’s no conflict there. There’s a place for science; there’s a place for faith."

Paul has a complete respect for science as it can be used as a guide to help improve our lives, make smarter decisions, and lower risk. However, science does not have all the answers. Rather, Paul has complete faith in our Creator who formed this earth and all living beings. As humans, we are created in God’s image! God made us with brains with the ability to think, reason, use logic, and utilize tools in order to discover what this earth has to offer. This is creation, masterfully crafted by our Creator.

What brings Paul peace and joy? His faith in our Creator and his relationship with Jesus. Paul believes his faith will provide the answers he needs to go through life. This eternal relationship brings a sense of gratitude and purpose that there is something greater waiting for him and waiting for all of us.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."
