Evan Simon, a 16-year-old junior at Chanhassen High School, wanted to do something special for his Eagle Scout project. He wanted to create something that would have long-term significance and value. He came up with a plan to create a trail around the Chanhassen campus (by the upper parking lot) that could be used for quiet, reflective time with God and nature.

Along with a team of volunteers, Evan constructed benches and birdhouses to be placed on the trail. He worked with Westwood’s Facility Manager Jim Theis and other employees. Despite the rain that fell on their installation days, Evan said he’s extremely proud of the result.

“For me, it was important to give back to the church. I’ve grown up here. I’m thankful to all the hardworking employees and volunteers, so I wanted to give the church something in return. I wanted to make something that everybody could use at any time, including myself,” Evan explained.

So come. Walk the trail. Experience the beauty of the world around you. And talk to God while you are there. He would love to hear from you.
