Racial Justice and Reconciliation Team (RJR)
RJR’s mission is to:
- Awaken to the pertinent issues at hand.
- Learn the critical histories which have led to and further compound present realities.
- Engage in specific ways which cohere with and activate Westwood’s mission and vision.
Care for Our Cities
To help rebuild what was lost in response to the death of George Floyd, here are 3 ways you can help:
- Donate to One Fund, above and beyond your regular giving. One Fund donations will be distributed towards the rebuilding effort in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
- Donate food through food drives at Westwood’s Chanhassen and Bush Lake campuses. Westwood has established a storehouse and all food and donated items will be distributed through partner agencies throughout the Twin Cities Metro area. Click here for a list of storehouse needs.
- Donate your time as you are able by joining the local Serve Team. You will be notified when needs arise and can sign up for opportunities to serve that fit your skills and availability. You can also visit our Westwood Outreach Facebook page for regular updates and need requests from Westwood’s community partners. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Jesus calls all his followers to reach the world with the hope found in Jesus Christ, it’s a big task. At Westwood, we seek ways to reach people here, near and far. There’s a place for everyone to participate in this great mission that Jesus Christ asked us to be a part of, even if you don’t want to hop on a plane!
Here and Near
We partner with local organizations to help meet the needs of our neighbors. Organizations we work with include Launch Ministries, New Life Family Ministry, Cru Inner City, the Hope House, Sheridan Story and Act United.
We partner with global organizations to make a kingdom impact around the world. Here are some of our many partners.
Chitipa Pyrethrum Project
This great project is transforming people’s lives through sustainability at the household level. In partnering with farmers and using Pyrethrum seeds, they learn field preparation, field management and harvesting that empowers the community spirit, confidence and economics.

The Timothy Initiative
The Timothy Initiative (TTI) is an international church planting organization whose purpose is to train and equip pastors and church planters. In South Asia, we have training centers where we are disciplining leaders, who will in turn disciple leaders. Locally, our work with TTI involves training multicultural and ethnic leaders to start new churches in immigrant communities in the Twin Cities.
“I thank God for the people of Westwood Community Church. 1,000 churches are being planted! 10 previously unengaged people groups are hearing the gospel for the first time. What a vision. Most denominations don’t see anything close to this, over decades. I’m no expert on angels, but my guess is you guys have got them shouting for joy up there!” -David Nelms, President of The Timothy Initiative
New Life Networks Sweden and Converge
Westwood has planted five new churches and is training over 100 new leaders from New Life Network to be church planters. Their goal is to revive the city of Stockholm for Christ by helping the Swedish church facilitate prayer, evangelism, discipleship and church planting movements.
Even with the threat of severe penalty to locals if they are caught, we have helped make the Bible securely available to read in the native language of unreached people in Asia. On any given day, over 700 people access the Bible website.
“In spite of everything, we remain encouraged and hopeful for the future. Thanks for all you are doing to help us continue to see the Bible made available across the homeland of an important unreached people group.” -Director of e-Bible initiative
Syrian Refugees in the Middle East
Westwood provides health and dental services, medicines and equipment to benefit Syrian refugees. When they receive compassionate care, they also receive reminders of hope.
IJM in Ghana
We support rescue efforts of boys and girls who are enslaved in the fishing industry on Lake Volta in Ghana through our work with International Justice Mission, which includes supporting biblical justice conferences with church leaders and fisherman in the area.
