My Westwood

Our story was (and is) about love

Westwood Community Church began in 1995 as an outreach to the southwest suburbs by Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie. Seeing a profound lack of churches in an area that was expanding greatly with residential construction, Wooddale helped provide resources to bring the message of Jesus’ love to the area. During the early years, Westwood held services in rented locations: first the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and then the Chaska High School. In 2003, a permanent church building was constructed.

Continued growth meant continued opportunities to extend love to new communities. Westwood launched two new churches: Emmaus Road in 2005 and Westbrook Church in 2011. Being blessed with increased attendance, a vision for multisite was born. A multisite church is a church that meets for worship in more than one location and has a shared budget and common leadership. Having multiple campuses is a cost-effective way to reach new communities with the love of Jesus, which is our commitment to live out the biblical calling in Acts 1:8 which says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Great planning and research went into determining where the greatest need for churches existed. Minnetonka is one of the least-churched areas in the Twin Cities, with only 13% of residents currently attending church. Westwood Minnetonka was launched on Sunday, February 7, 2016. The church features live worship music, great programs for kids and students, and the same sermon message as Chanhassen projected on large screens. Pastor Mark Nelson, who has been on staff with Westwood for 20 years, serves as the Campus Pastor.

We hope you will be a part of this continued love story. That you will find a place to belong in a place called Westwood.
