Experiencing God Through Art

by | Jun 6, 2018

Art has always had a major role in the history of the Church and now it has one at Westwood. We are rolling out an art initiative to display original works on campus that will allow us to worship the Creator in new ways.

Why art? The beauty of art is that we bring our own story into the interpretation. It encourages us to think and feel. It can spark questions, feelings and dialogue that pulls us closer to God.

You will find pieces by local artists on display throughout the upper level of the Chanhassen campus. Eventually we hope to have pieces featured at the Minnetonka campus as well as the Bush Lake campus which launches this fall.

One of the artists who has contributed their work is Sarah Lee. Sarah is a sculptor and printmaker whose work has been exhibited locally as well as in New York, Austria and the U.K. Her piece, which can be found by the Worship Center, is a reflection on new life in Christ and the joy, growth and freedom that comes with that. It is based on 2 Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

If you are an artist and would be interested in having your work displayed, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact communications@westwoodcc.org.

What is Lament?

What do you think of when you hear the word lament? At first, I think of a sad song or an elaborate poem in remembrance of a lost loved one. While this is one of the definitions of lament, lament is a unique word with a larger depth of meaning. For starters, it’s both...
