My Westwood

Reaching People Here, Near and Far

Westwood’s Outreach Ministry’s mission is to extend God’s love and mercy to those in need across the street and across the globe. Our efforts are focused on three areas: here, near and far.

In our community, we partner with local agencies to provide practical help and resources to those in need. Some of our local outreach activities include a coat drive in the fall, a Christmas gift drive in December, and a household donation drive for young mothers in the spring.

We have partnered with Bridge for Youth Southwest in providing a home for homeless teens in our community, located on our Chanhassen campus. We provide support to local refugees, and we have a prison ministry at the Shakopee Women’s Correctional Facility.

Globally, we have teams that minister to people in faraway countries. We provide funding and supporting a medical clinic in the Middle East, mission work in East and Central Asia, and spiritual and economic development work in Malawi, Tanzania, Ghana, and Mozambique.

We also advocate for victims of injustice and work closely with local and international organizations like International Justice Mission, World Vision and World Relief to help end slavery and trafficking. If you have a heart for reaching others and maybe even a desire to travel the globe, we could use you. Check out our Outreach teams or contact us below with your interest. We’d love to help you find your place.

Thank you for your desire to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Westwood Relief Strategy
Westwood has a long-term view of relief for the victims of any disaster. With Hurricane Harvey we know there will be months and years of recovery and rebuilding ahead. While our hearts want to do everything we can to immediately send items to help, past emergencies of this magnitude have taught us that we need a layered, long-term approach if we really want to help.
With that in mind, here is the Hurricane Harvey relief plan:

Immediate Support
Westwood Community Church has reached out on your behalf with immediate financial support to the network of churches we belong to called Converge Worldwide. Converge will work with specific churches in the affected areas to both help the church as well as reach out to their neighbors and meet immediate needs.
Many of you would still like to give to trusted partners and organizations recommended by Westwood. We highly recommend the following:

Next step: longer-term needs assessment
The next step is to wait a while for accurate, longer-term needs assessments from our trusted organizations and partners and then work to supply those very specific needs. Keep referring back to this page for ways to respond to those needs. Or “like” us on our Facebook page for ongoing updates.

Long-term: Mission Trips
Westwood hopes to adopt a few churches in the Houston area in the coming months. We hope to take mission trips there to help those churches and their neighbors rebuild their lives. This could take the form of small groups, men’s or women’s groups, or even a family mission trip during Spring Break.
