Amy Simpson; Toward a More Welcoming Community
Saturday, May 6; 8:30-11:45am, Room A112, at Chanhassen Campus

Most of us are affected by mental illness either our own or someone in our family. Amy Simpson, author of Troubled Minds: Mental Illness and the Church's Mission shares her own story of living with a close family member's serious mental illness and provides insights into how each of us can respond with understanding and love. A Better Response Begins with Better Thinking, 8:30-10:00am
If we're going to respond well to the needs of people with mental illness, we need to start by thinking differently. This session will challenge certain misunderstandings about mental illness and its relationship to faith and suggest better ways to respect and relate to the personal and spiritual longings of individuals and their loved ones affected by mental illness.

Each One Can Make a Difference, 10:15–11:45am
The effects of mental illness go way beyond the individual and those effects can be devastating. Understanding and helping people affected by mental illness is key. We will explore practical ways of walking alongside one another to offer encouragement and friendship in the name of Christ.
