Giving Stock or From an Estate

Donate Stock

Donating stock that has appreciated in value may provide potential tax benefits. When you give appreciated stock—rather than cash—to Westwood (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization), you are generally exempt from paying capital gains tax. You can maximize your resources while advancing Kingdom purposes. It is best to consult with your financial planner or tax adviser to confirm any tax benefits you may receive from your donation of stock. Click here for the form that will facilitate your gift of stock to Westwood or contact Mary Anderson, Accounting Manager, at the Church Office, 952-224-7334. If you wish to have your gift receipted in a specific tax year, please note that some stock transactions can take several months to process.

Stock/Mutual Fund Year End Gifts
If you are considering a year-end gift of stock or mutual funds to support the ministries of Westwood, please note that such transactions can take more than 30 days to process. Once you have initiated the gift with your broker, please send an email to accounting@westwoodcc.org with the type and quantity of stock, and whether to designate to the General or Building funds. Privacy laws limit the ability of brokers to give us this information. Call Mary Anderson at 952-224-7334 with any questions.

Estate Gifts

Including Westwood in your estate plan (i.e. bequest, life insurance, retirement plan, charitable remainder trust, gift of a residence, etc.) can be of significant benefit to the church even as it may bring significant tax benefits to the donor. Discuss the options with your financial advisor and/or contact Jim Anderson, Executive Pastor, for more information. At various times, Westwood’s Stewardship Team offers a seminar that provides information to help people plan their estates in a way that accomplishes their purposes and supports their values. Watch the website or the weekly Program for information on the next seminar.

Gifts in Kind

Westwood is often able to receive gifts in kind, such as personal property. For more information on giving gifts in kind, click here or please contact Pastor Jim Anderson at 952-224-7380.
