MOPS

What is MOPS?
MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a program that meets at Westwood Community Church every other Thursday morning (9:30-11:30) or once a month on Thursday nights (6:30-8:30) from mid-September to early May. It is designed to meet the unique needs of moms with children from birth through kindergarten age who all share a similar desire: to be the very best they can be!

MOPS provides a place for busy moms to...
  • RELAX!
With children lovingly cared for through the MOPPETS child care program, moms can spend a few hours focusing on their own needs as mothers.
  • CONNECT!
In a discussion group with 6-8 other moms, meaningful friendships are formed as moms can openly share their joys and challenges and be encouraged by those in the same stage of motherhood.
  • CREATE!
Some weeks there is more time to chat over a fun craft project (without any little hands wanting to help!)
  • LEARN!
A guest speaker provides relevant teaching and practical tools to help each mom learn new skills to fulfill the challenging roles of mother, wife and woman.
  • GROW!
Experienced "Mentor Moms" give insight from their own years of mothering and encourage moms with Biblical truths.
  • EAT!
A delicious meal is waiting for you at each meeting (without any little hands needing help!)

A Typical MOPS Meeting
Upon arrival, you will go to your assigned table where you’ll be able to connect with other moms. You will sit at the same table with the same moms all year so that you really have a chance to build strong friendships. A breakfast (morning MOPS) or dinner (evening MOPS) is served buffet-style right away which allows time to talk with your table and get settled (children receive a light snack). Most meetings will have a speaker covering all sorts of topics relating to your mothering experience. The Mentor Mom may also say a few words to encourage you in your journey. After the speakers are done, you will be given time to discuss the topic and share your thoughts in a safe and nurturing environment. The general flow of each meeting is the same, but we will also try to throw in some music, games and crafts throughout each session. Throughout the year, we will also hold group socials so that you will have a chance to connect with other moms who are not at your table. The main objective is to connect with other moms in your same stage of life and to find a place where you feel you belong!

Service Requirements For Day Program: We require each mom to serve in the MOPPETS child care program two times each session along-side her discussion group. This service will take place on the opposite week of the MOPS program registered for. Each discussion group is also asked to bring refreshments once or twice each session. Your participation in fulfilling these two requests is both needed and appreciated!

Service Requirements For Evening: Each mom is asked to bring drinks and dessert approximately once per session.

MOPPETS/Westwood Children's Program
The MOPPETS Program is designed specifically to care for the needs of infants, preschoolers and kindergartners. The purpose is to provide a safe and stimulating environment for each child while his/her mother attends the MOPS program. Every MOPPETS morning is filled with stories, games, songs, small motor activities, crafts, play time, and a snack.
